X-Men: Apocalypse – New trailer takes us to a darker, more destructive universe for the X-Men
X-men is coming back to theaters and with it comes a new villain and cast members. Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 19th for the UK and May 27th for the US. While set in the 80s, it is the final installment of the X-Men prequel trilogy. This movie follows the successful X-Men: Days of Future Past, that was greatly appraised in 2014.
The movie starts out with shots of the main characters as it goes straight into talking about the ancient and formidable Apocalypse. The first mutant to ever exist and worshiped as a God, Apocalypse has finally awakened after thousands of years. He is set on reigning once again by cleansing the world of humans, as he believes only the strong should survive. As the entirety of mankind hangs in the balance our well known mutants Raven, Professor X, Beast, and Quicksilver must team up with Charles’ school for mutants new recruits Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler, and Jubilee to defeat the god-like foe and his handpicked gang of opposing mutants.
As this is a prequel many believe that the members of X-Men that appear in the later set films will be safe from death. However, producer Simon Kinberg has disapproved this saying, “A lot could have changed from that point in 1973 forward.” He notes that the events that happened in Days of Future Past may have altered the universe in which it exists, giving free range to change key elements in the X-Men universe.
Many are already speculating that Mystique will be the one to fall, the teaser showing her being chocked by apocalypse at the very end. This can be backed up by the fact the actress who portrays Mystique, Jennifer Lawrence, has shared that this will be her last X-Men film.
The teaser shows a very dark side of X-Men and many are excited to see what kind of destruction takes place. There is also a good amount of action and suspense shown that gives a lot of fans hope. Whether this will be the last X-Men movie is uncertain, but it certainly sets the table to incorporate other characters like Deadpool, who is taking Marvel fans by storm.
