DC and Warner Bros have released a synopsis for their upcoming DC Extended Universe instalment, Wonder Woman, and two screenwriters have been confirmed.

The DCEU will first get rolling again with Suicide Squad in August 2016. Following that, Wonder Woman will arrive in June 2017.

Both the synopsis and the writer news are a little late in arriving, given that we already had both a teaser trailer and the name of the director long ago.

The official synopsis for Wonder Woman reads:

Wonder Woman hits movie theatres around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her true powers… and her true destiny.

This synopsis gives us a strong basis for why Diana gets involved in World War I, but it does leave unanswered questions, such as what Diana’s origin will be (whether they will follow the avenue that she was moulded from clay or not) and whether there will be any key super villains from the comics in the film.

Geoff Johns and Allan Heinberg have also been credited as screenwriters for the film. Up until this point, Jason Fuchs (PanIce Age: Continental Drift) was thought to be the writer of Wonder Woman, but the script appears to have undergone a lot of revisions since his involvement.

Geoff Johns is, of course, DC’s Chief Creative Officer. Allan Heinberg is known primarily for Grey’s Anatomy.

We are just as excited about this film as we are about Suicide Squad and we feel that both films with be exceptional.

Wonder Woman is penned in for a 2 June 2017 release.
