Wonder Woman 2 will be released 6 weeks earlier than planned

The Wonder Woman sequel – generally called Wonder Woman 2, as a working title – has had its release date shifted forward (earlier) by 6 weeks. The film was originally penned for a 13th December 2019 release, but it’s now been moved to 1st November 2019.

It’s a clear effort to give a wide berth to Star Wars: Episode IX (also a working title), after Disney shifted its release date to 20th December 2019. This came after JJ Abrams replaced Colin Trevorrow as the film’s director. All studios – even a titan like Warner Bros – know better than to tangle with Star Wars, which will undoubtedly draw in the masses in their droves, leaving little room for Diana to perform well.

It’s likely that Warner Bros have also considered the recent box office success of Thor: Ragnarok, which performed really well with a 3rd November release date (in the US). Taika Waititi’s film has proven that films can do well in this early-November slot.

Wonder Woman will appear in Justice League first, this coming Friday.

This revised slot will give Wonder Woman ample room to shine as well as the first film did. Wonder Woman broke various records and brought in $412.6 million domestically and $821.8 million worldwide.

How do you feel about Warner Bros moving aside for Star Wars? Do you think it’s a smart move, or would you rather they’d stuck to their guns? Let us know in the comments section below.
