20th Century Fox have dropped a massive four and a half minute clip for the upcomingAlien: Covenant during last night’s airing of Legion on FX.

The clip, titled The Last Supper, opens up with Michael Fassbender’s David character performing a brief medical check on Katherine Waterston’s Daniels before the crew of the colony ship Covenant start their preparations to enter cryosleep.

In the first minute or so we are also granted some on-screen time with James Franco’s character before he retires to his cabin. Shortly afterwards the crew of the Covenant get together for drinks and food before they themselves prepare for cryosleep and we’re given an insight into the different relationships and personalities of the ship’s crew.

Katherine Waterston’s Daniels wraps up the clip with an empowering speech to the crew of the Covenant reminding them that they are the first humans on a mission to colonize a previously uncharted paradise.

All the the while it’s hard not to miss the obvious and blatant visual references to Jesus Christ’s last supper. The foreshadowing of a disastrous event is clear and ultimately, as we all know, the crew of the Covenant are at peril.

Whether this disaster is aided and progressed by David as we saw in Prometheus is yet unclear but given the ambiguous portrayal of the android in this clip and what we know of the character previously, it would not be a surprise if he was indeed the instigator in a series of destructive events.

Alien: Covenant is the sequel to Prometheus and serves as a prequel to the Alien franchise, it is directed by Ridley Scott and is due for UK cinema and IMAX release on May 19th.
