Over the weekend Warner Bros debuted the very first trailer for Ready Player One at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Based on the novel by Ernest Cline and directed by Steven Spielberg, Ready Player One focuses on Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) as he competes in a virtual treasure hunt within the OASIS to be the first person to discover the hidden easter egg. Whoever find the easter egg not only wins the game, but the immense fortunes left behind by it’s creator.

The trailer is laced with pop culture references from The Iron Giant to Freddy Krueger to the A-Team and even the DeLorean from the Back to the Future films makes several appearances. It’s a genuine blast and refreshingly nostalgic, for those who’ve never read the book it’ll be hard not to draw comparisons with Wreck it Ralph, but that is in no way a bad thing.

Watch the heady trailer below and let us know how many of the cameos you manage to spot in the best two minutes you’ll spend today:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

The film is slated for release worldwide beginning 30th March, 2018, and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.
