Nintendo has partnered with Mojang and Microsoft to combine the worlds of Minecraft and the Super Mario Series in an all new and free update to Minecraft: Wii U Edition. The update is due for the 18th of May and for the first time ever you’ll be able to play as Mario and fend off blocky Hammer Bros. in the Minecraft universe.

Once players have downloaded and installed the free update they will have access to a whole host of new skins for their characters, new item textures, music and a Super Mario themed pre-made world. All of the wonderful additions are inspired by iconic Super Mario games such as Super Mario Worls, Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. You can view a lot of the new characters skins, textures and more in the following trailer:

There are over 40 new character skins coming in this free update including Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach, Bowser, Wario and all seven of Bowser’s minions. All of the Minecraft’s usual world and item textures have been updated in this patch

providing players the opportunity to create their own Super Mario-themed locations within the world of Minecraft. This is all set to the soundtrack of 15 pieces of music from the original Mario 64 game.

The Super-Mario themed update will arrive on the 18th of May and Minecraft: Wii U Edition can currently be downloaded in the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U console and via the Nintendo UK website.
