The official trailer for Netflix original Stranger Things has been revealed at Comic-Con, and based on the footage it looks to be darker and larger in scope with an expanded mythology. From creators Matt and Ross Duffer, season 2 is expected to consist of 9 episodes and returns to the streaming service just in time for Halloween.

The season 2 returning cast includes Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Noah Schnapp, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono and Joe Keery. Newly added cast members include Paul Reiser, Sean Astin, Linnea Berthelsen, Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery, among others.

The official plot synopsis for season 2 reads:

It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgan and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

Executive producer Shawn Levy had the following to say about season 2 in a recent interview with EW:

“I was just in the edit room with the brothers yesterday, and we’re like, ‘This is definitely darker. I hope everyone’s down with this,’ because the threats to Hawkins and to our characters are bigger, darker, often times scarier,” he said of the Netflix series. “So people who found season 1 too scary for them, probably you’re going to be more scared by season 2. But again, the best thing I can tell you is that through it all, it’s got the best heart. But it is, cinematically and budgetary, it’s definitely more ambitious.”

Stranger Things returns to Netflix for its second season on October 27th.
