Steppenwolf confirmed as lead villian in DC’s upcoming Justice League film alongside logo reveal
DC have confirmed that Steppenwolf will be a primary villain within the Justice League films.
This was simply confirmation of news that we already knew was likely a certainty, however, due to DC releasing a short scene with Steppenwolf and Lex Luther from their Batman V Superman extended cut, just after the film’s cinema release. The large creature was not named at that point, but from his physical appearance it was clear who he was.
That scene showed Lex, inside a ship, with Steppenwolf standing before him, along with several motherboxes (depicted below).
In the comics, Steppenwolf is the Uncle of Darkseid, and is one of Darkseid’s most trusted Lieutenants. We think that Part One of the Justice League films will focus on defeating Steppenwolf (with Darkseid coming in towards the end) and that Part Two will focus on Darkseid himself.
DC have also detailed the official synopsis for Justice League (which assumably covers Part One and Part Two), which reads:
Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find an recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. Despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes – Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash – it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
It is worth noting that this may be the first time that DC have confirmed Wonder Woman’s name in these films as being Diana Prince. In Batman V Superman, the closest we got to this was a stewardess calling her “Ms Prince”, so it’s nice to know for certain that they will be using the name Diana.
Also worth noting is the use of the word ‘metahumans’, which is exactly the word that The CW’s The Flash uses to refer to people with abnormal powers.
Lastly, Steppenwolf (and Darkseid too, depending on if this synopsis counts for both films), is referred to as being awakened (‘awakening’), which seems a strange word to us, to us, given that both Darkseid and Steppenwolf are assumably coming from elsewhere in the universe, rather than being awakened out of a slumber.
DC have also revealed the official logo for the Justice League films, which can be viewed within the title image for this article. The logo could be described as a little bland and a little basic, to the point where it might look odd, placed within a polished official poster for the film, but we’re happy enough with the design.
We’re thrilled with the way that the DCEU is panning out so far and we cannot wait for both parts of Justice League to arrive.
Justice League Part One will be released in the UK on November 17th 2017.
