Star Trek: Beyond introduces villain Krall in new featurette
The Star Trek franchise has been known for bringing pop culture some of the most notorious and memorable villains for generations, and the new installment looks to be no exception. Paramount Pictures have released a featurette revealing The Federation’s latest villain, Krall, for the upcoming Star Trek: Beyond film. Idris Elba, director Justin Lin, and other cast members discuss the character’s complexity and motivations in this new video. Krall will be played by actor Idris Elba (Thor, The Jungle Book, Beasts of No Nation, Luther), who had the following to say about his character:
“He is damaged, but there’s some empathy towards him. We want to understand why he’s got such beef with The Federation.”
Director Justin Lin had the following to add:
“I wanted a character that is there to deconstruct the Federation’s ideals, but to do it in a way where he has a very valid philosophy.”
