Sideshow debuts an enormous Voltron statue in honour of the eighties legend returning to TV

Sideshow have done it again and announced a large scale Voltron maquette that is sure to be the envy of everyone you will ever know. One of the the best things to come from the 80s were the cartoons and Voltron: Defender of the Universe is no exception. It had a giant space-faring mech, that’s constructed of five smaller lion robots and weilds a giant blazing sword and now you can get your very own Defender of the Universe to display with pride amongst your collection.

There are a lot of things going on with this Voltron maquette from sideshow, so here’s a quick run down of it’s details:

  • Voltron is composed of all of your favourite lion force members.
  • This maquette is based on the the classic character designs from the 80s cartoons.
  • The maquette is constructed from polyresin, metal and PVC components.
  • He stands at an enormous 27″ (68.5cm) tall.
  • He has a wingspan of 14.5″ (36.8cm) wide.
  • Voltron is composed of 106 individual peices.
  • Both the lion’s and the robot’s eyes light up.
  • Voltron can be displayed with or without his legendary blazing sword.
  • The figure is scheduled to ship between May and July 2017.
  • The Voltron maquette will retail at $1250 / £852.25

While some may balk at the price, which undoubtedly seems steep, you’ve got to remember you pay for what you get and what you’re getting is quality with this Voltron maquette. Besides it’s monstrous dimensions you need to consider all of the skill, effort and man-hours that went into designing, sculpting and getting this eighties classic into production. Add in the fact that this maquette will undoubtedly be hand painted to a very high level of detail and you can begin to justify the price for such a stunning collectible.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe debuted in 1984 and quickly became a widely popular children’s television show, comic book series, and multimedia phenomenon. The series was among the first to introduce American audiences to Japanese anime and paved the way for many subsequent anime-inspired shows like Power Rangers and Pokémon. Earlier this month, Netflix launched a reboot of the popular animation series called Voltron: Legendary Defender. True Voltron fans, both seasoned and new, will want to celebrate and commemorate the launch of this new series by reserving this one-of-a-kind collectible.
