New trailer for The X-Files revealed at NYCC
FOX revealed the first official trailer for season 11 of The X-Files at NYCC today. The all-new 10-episode installment will once again be executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning in their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The event series is set to air during the 2017-2018 season, though an official date has yet to be confirmed.
The previous event series having ended on a cliffhanger, fans are no doubt eager for the story to continue. And judging by the brand new footage, it appears to be massive in scope, apocalyptic even, while also delving into the personal mythology of the characters. Hopefully this means fans will finally get answers for questions that have plagued us for years. Perhaps even closure.
Watch the official trailer below:
While it’s uncertain at this time whether or not this will be the final chapter of the series, Gillian Anderson recently told ScreenRant that this is the last she plans to be involved with. When asked what interested her in doing this season, the actress replied with the following response:
Because it felt like it wasn’t over. It didn’t feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that.
Hopefully the image above, which was released as a first-look by EW, doesn’t hint at a tragic fate for Dana Scully. Executive producer Chris Carter had the following to say about the photo in question in an interview with Deadline:
I think that picture tells you that there is something to be suspected about that season finale that things may not be what they appear.
In the interview, Carter also confirms that characters Jeffrey Spender and Walter Skinner can be expected to return. He also mentions that viewers will learn more about, and perhaps even see, William, Mulder and Scully’s child. If the trailer is any indication, the duo’s long-lost child will have a considerable impact on coming episodes.
