Lionsgate have released an official trailer and poster for upcoming action-thriller Blood Father starring Mel Gibson and Erin Moriarty. Blood Father is adapted from the novel of the same name by Peter Craig, who also wrote the screenplay. The official synopsis is as follows:

After her drug kingpin boyfriend frames her for stealing a fortune in cartel cash, 17-year-old Lydia goes on the run, with only one ally in this whole wide world: her perennial screw-up of a dad, John Link, who’s been a motorcycle outlaw, and a convict in his time, and now is determined to keep his little girl from harm and, for once in his life, do the right thing…

View the official trailer below:

John Link is an ex-convict who lives in a desolate wasteland and must use connections from his past life to keep his estranged daughter alive from the drug cartel that is hunting her down. The gritty trailer has a grindhouse type feel to it and is also reminiscent of Mel Gibson’s dystopian 70’s film Mad Max, and looks to be an action packed thrill ride.

Blood Father stars Mel Gibson as John Link and Erin Moriarty as his daughter, Lydia. Moriarty is best known for her role in HBO original series True Detective. Supporting cast includes Diego Luna, Michael Parks, and William H. Macy. The film is directed by director Jean-François Richet. The directors most notable works to date are Mesrine and the remake of Assault on Precinct 13. The film is produced by author Peter Craig, who is the son of actress Sally Field,  and is known for his screenplays for The Town and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay parts 1 and 2. The film is also produced by Chris Brings, whose previous works include Hostel parts one and two, Vikingar and Poseidon.

Blood Father will be released by Lionsgate Premiere in theaters August 12, 2016.

This looks great, well covered, Jenn.

I love Mel as an actor and I probably wouldn’t have known about this at all without you covering it. Now I’m eager to catch it, upon its release.

Plus I didn’t recognise Moriarty from True Detective at all, so I’m one up on that now too.
