Moana: Teaser trailer and high quality images have been revealed for Disney’s upcoming polynesian epic
Disney have just released an epic trove of information for their upcoming polynesian adventure film, Moana. Moana follows the story of a young spirited teenager called Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho and the film’s namesake) who set’s out to prove herself capable of being a master wayfinder at sea. Along her journeys she meets the once-mighty demi-god known as Maui (voice by Dwayne Johnson) and together go on an action-packed adventure, sailing the seas and battling enourmous sea monsters.
The teaser trailer itself serves as an introduction to Dwayne Johnson’s character, Maui (who is seen in the lead image above), it very briefly goes through his history and feats in a similar fashion to how the Muses from Disney’s Hercules narrate sections of that film. It’s save to say that Dwayne Johnson was a perfect casting for a muscle-bound polynesian demi-god, you can easily see in the clip Disney have recreated Johnson’s persona and physical traits, including his famous raised eyebrow look for when he used to wrestle as The Rock for WWE. Have a watch for yourself below and you’ll soon agree:
Moana will be directed by Ron Clements and John Musker with Osnat Shurer acting as producer. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker are Disney royalty having work on some of the biggest animated films of our generation including 1989’s The Little Mermaid, 1992’s Aladdin and 1997’s Hercules. It’s easy to see how they were influenced by their prior work on Hercules at the beginning of the above trailer.
To cast the voice of Moana, filmmakers auditioned hundreds of taltend young women from the Pacific Islands before landing the extremely talented Auli’i Cravalho. Auli’i didn’t actually pursue the role of Moana at all, it was instead the films Hawaii based casting director who witnessed her raw talent when she applied for completely separate and unconnected talent showcase and subsequently he invited her to try out. Three auditions later and she had the title role.
Moana is due for release in UK cinemas on the 2nd of December, 2016.
