It’s been twenty years since the aliens last tried to attack Earth and in this latest trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence we get a glimpse into how humanity has used the wreckages and alien technology left behind to vastly improve humanities defences. Now that the aliens are back, and back with a vengance, let’s hope those twenty years of preparation are put to good use.

Where the first trailer focused on the return of a much larger invasion force, this second trailer really has it’s emphasis on how far humanity has come since the last time we encountered the aliens. We can assume humanity has been interrogating and experimenting on stranded aliens as suggested in the first trailer with Dr. Brackish Okun (Brent Spiner), but we now know that their technology highly beneficial to humanity in it’s preparations.

All aspects of humanity seem to have been improved through the alien technology: infrastructure, industry, transportation and obviously warfare have all been greatly improved since the War of 1996. There are even squadarons of fighter jets that are clearly based of the alien fighter ships similar to the one Captain Steve Hiller (Will Smith) and David Levinson (Jeff Golblum) used to destroy the mothership in the first film.

We also get our first and most likely only glimpse of Will Smith’s character, Captain Steve Hiller, in Independence Day: Resurgence, he can be seen in a family photo his son Dylan Hiller (Jessie Usher) keeps in his locker.

Independence Day: Resurgence hits UK cinemas June 24th and while this is clearly a CGI heavy film, we’re really excited at The Nerd Recites to see it come to fruition.
