With the UEFA Euro 2016 championship in full swing, 20th Century Fox have released two new featurettes for Independence Day: Resurgence featuring three of England’s greatest footballing legends.

David Seaman (England Goalkeeper 1987-2002), Terry Venables (England Assistant Manager 2006–2007) and Darren Anderton (England Midfielder 1994-2001) all took part in expressing how the War of 1996 (original Independence Day film) “felt like yesterday” and that “it just felt like it was the end of the world”.

The first featurette sees the English footballing legends recanting their stories of the first war against the aliens, cut together with footage from the original invasion (film). Once again, this is another really nice touch from 20th Century Fox in their attempts to create a beleivable universe for the Independence Day: Resurgence film by bringing real world people and organizations into the fold of their fictional universe.

The second featurette has 20 seconds of the footballing stars discussing the original invasion before cutting to footage from the new film, Independence Day: Resurgence, most of which we’ve seen multiple times before. You can view it for yourself below.

The first of the featurettes in my opinion is the best, I like that it’s cut with the original film and it certainly appears to have a real World War documentary feel to it. It’s definitely put togehter like an advert for a Discovery or History Channel special on the World Wars.

About Independence Day: Resurgence

We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
