Entertainment Weekly has given us the first look at the long-awaited and massively anticipated adaptation of Stephen King’s book series The Dark Tower. An adaptation of this Western science fiction series has been widely expected by the fans for a long time so the expectations are high for this blockbuster. Along with the horror movie It and the TV series The Mist, it will be one of the three adaptations based on the works of Stephen King to be released in 2017. In the newly released images from The Dark Tower we see the characters of the Gunslinger and Walter, The Man in Black, played by Idris Elba and Matthew Mcconaughey respectively.

Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, most recently known to us from hit movies like Interstellar, The Wolf of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers Club, as well as a popular television series True Detective, is seen in this still from the movie as Walter, or The Man in Black. Given the record of his past roles we can guess that McConaughey is suitable for the role of the sorcerer.

Idris Elba in The Dark Tower (2017)

The second image released, although a promotional image rather than a still, shows us Idris Elba who takes the lead role of Roland Deschain, also known as The Gunslinger, sporting two guns and a leather jacket. Idris Elba is famous for his roles in Beasts of No Nation, Pacific Rim, the Marvel cinematic universe, as well as TV series Luther and The Wire.

The movie will also star Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Preacher) and Claudia Kim (Marco Polo) and is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel. Ron Howard was set to direct before, but now serves as a producer. The movie is set to hit the cinemas February 17th, 2017.
