“The roads we walk have demons beneath… and yours have been waiting for a very long time.”

The trailer for Season 4 of acclaimed British mystery series Sherlock has been revealed at San Diego Comic Con, giving fans a first glimpse of what looks to be a season that is much darker in tone than its predecessors.

The action-packed trailer shows car chases, explosions and a terrified looking Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch), accompanied by ominous words such as “Something’s coming” and “It’s not a game”. It even hints at the return of a certain evil genius…

If that wasn’t enough, the teaser also gives us a first look at Toby Jones as the new villain of the season. If what he has in store is half as terrifying as his maniacal laugh, Holmes and Co. are in for quite the showdown.

While the specific air date is not yet known, the trailer does indicate a 2017 release, so fans will have to wait just a little bit longer. Waiting for new episodes of Sherlock has almost become some sort of a tradition, so most fans will be accustomed to it by now. At least now we can watch the trailer over and over again to keep us occupied until then.
