Blizzard Releases Third Overwatch Short – Dragons
Blizzard has released the next, amazingly animated short, “Dragons.”
As action-packed as the last two shorts, this short features a fight between brothers. It opens up with a very Asian, kung-fu movie feel, and tells us the story about two dragons.
The two great dragon brothers fought over how to rule the land. The Dragon of the South Wind defeated the Dragon of the North Wind, but as time passed the North Dragon regretted what he had done. A human appeared and asked why the dragon was so distraught, and the dragon replied how he killed his brother, and without him, he is lost. The human replied, “You have inflicted wounds upon yourself, now you must heal. Walk the earth on two feet as I do, find value In humility, then you will find peace.” After the North Dragon became human, it was revealed that the human was his fallen brother. The two set out to rebuild what they had destroyed.
This beautifully illustrated story mimics what you see happen between Hanzo and Genji, the two Overwatch characters who are featured in this short.
Hanzo returns to Hanamura, where he goes to repay his respects to the brother he had killed, but ends up fighting an assassin in an epic battle. Hanzo uses his archery while the assassin, in a robotic suit, using a sword. Hanzo uses an attack where a dragon flies out from his weapon and the assasin mimics it. In shock, Hanzo expresses that the attack can only be used by those in the Shimada clan, and just like in the dragon story, the other person was revealed to be his brother.
The fight keeps you on your toes, wondering if the two will continue to go head to head after the reveal, but even with his arrow ready, Hanzo is reluctant to shoot with hearing how much his brother forgives and believes in him.
While this short does not contain anything relating to the main plot or political lore like the other two shorts did, it was still an amazing glimpse into the characters and full of emotion.
Don’t forget that Overwatch hits PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 24, 2016, and that you can read about the first two shorts, Recall and Alive, right here on The Nerd Recites. Don’t forget to comment and tell us which one is your favorite!
