Blizzard is back with another Overwatch animation short – Alive

Blizzard has come out with the newest short animation that highlights the background of Overwatch’s characters and backstory of the game itself.

“Alive” is the second of the four shorts that are being released and it does not disappoint. While the first short was about the scientist monkey named Winston, this short focuses on Amélie LaCroix, known as Widowmaker, and Tracer. It and even dips into the political core of the game and is speculated to be the “Second Omnic Crisis” that was seen on the news in the first short, “Recall.”

Shown in the same great style and animation as the first short, we see Widowmaker skillfully shooting her sniper rifle as an assassin. Her target is none other than an obviously important politician, Tekhartha Mondatta, a robot who is advocating for peace between his kind and humans.

While it is clear she has little emotion, she expresses her thrill by saying, “When I was a girl, I had a fear of spiders. I was told that they felt no emotion; that their hearts never beat. But I know the truth. At the moment of the kill… They are never more alive.”

Tracer, who graces the game’s cover, is the one who tried her best to protect Tekhartha. The fight between her and Widowmaker was fast paced and exciting to watch, and we even got a little glimpse of Tracer’s time jumping ability.

While the shorts are not completely accurate when it comes to the game’s gameplay it is a great way to get pumped for the game, and to start picking your favorite characters.

It’s also great that this new short shows that all the shorts will be very unique, just like the characters. It was great to see something completely different than Winston’s short. While this short had no flashbacks, it brings us more into what is currently going on in the game. It makes fans want to learn more about what is going on in the game and with the characters.

Don’t forget that Overwatch releases on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 24th!
