American Gods renewed for a second season by Starz network

Just two episodes in, American Gods has already been renewed for a second season by Starz network. Considering season one is only expected to cover roughly a third of Neil Gaiman’s novel, which the series is adapted from, it’s always been apparent that the network was confident the series would have longevity. Nevertheless, such an early renewal announcement is exciting news. The news was announced earlier today on the official twitter account which read as follows:

Your prayers have been answered. is returning for Season 2.

Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) and Michael Greene (Heroes, Kings) serve as co-showrunners with Gaiman executive producing. The series stars Ricky Whittle (The 100) as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane (Deadwood) as Mr. Wednesday. Additional cast includes Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black), Yetide Badaki (Sequestered), Bruce Langley (Deadly Waters), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future) , Orlando Jones (Sleepy Hollow), Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies), Gillian Anderson (Hannibal, The Fall, The X-Files), Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope), Peter Stormare (Prison Break), Corbin Bernsen (Psych) and Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom). The synopsis reads:

When Shadow Moon is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and a storm begins to brew. Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the center of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost. As Shadow travels across the country with Mr. Wednesday, he struggles to accept this new reality, and his place in it.

American Gods is currently airing on Starz network on Sundays, and the following day on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
