AMC has delivered a chilling new clip from The Walking Dead season 7 premiere at New York Comic Con. Fans have been in an uproar since being left with a cliffhanger during the season 6 finale, and the producers have promised a premiere that will make good on that decision.

“It is absolutely worth the wait. It’s a fantastic premiere to a fantastic season. I think everyone will be blown away. There are all kinds of great stuff coming this season.” insists creator and producer Robert Kirkman.

“Negan upends the entire story.” states showrunner Scott M. Gimple on bring Negan into the series. He went on to say, “Negan has an incredible amount of power, both in his cult personality and his practical man power. He has legions and legions of people who identify themselves as him. He’s got a system that has worked very well by him and it fairly immediately neutralized Rick and his group, who are quite formidable. Negan knows people. He knows human nature. He knows himself. For a powerful and smart person to know human nature that well – that is very dangerous. “

The new footage is over 3 minutes long and picks up shortly after the closing of the season 6 finale. It shows Negan wielding a blood soaked baseball bat, proving that he delivered on his threat to make the group pay their debt for killing his people. Rick delivers a death threat that it seems he’ll unlikely to be able to fulfill anytime soon. Check out the new footage below.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, October 23rd.
