A new Black Lightning poster has been revealed
The CW have released new art for their upcoming DC show Black Lightning. The design comes in the form of a sumptuous new poster.
The show comes from the minds of Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil and The CW’s ever-prolific (even more so since Andrew Kreisberg was fired) man-behind-the-scenes, Greg Berlanti.
This artwork is very different to the first poster, which was more of a standard, colourful affair. This new poster goes for a drained look, with yellow as the only colour. It’s a choice that which reminds me of the marketing material and visuals for Luke Cage, and that might be no accident – here, too, we have a strong African American male at the centre of the show. It might be smart to remind people how great Luke Cage was, even though it was Marvel and a different network.
Black Lightning centres on Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) – a father of two daughters, principal of a charter high school and a hero in his community. Nine years ago he was a hero of a different sort, gifted with superhuman powers as the masked vigilante Black Lightning.
Seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Superhero days behind. But now with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of a menacing local gang, Black Lightning returns – to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.
Black Lightning will premier on Tuesday 16th January at 9PM on The CW.
