The newest trailer for Star Trek: Beyond once again focuses on the events and aftermath of the destruction of the U.S.S. Enterprise by the hands of an unkown superior force led by Idris Elba’s villian Krall.

The trailer, much like the previous trailer, opens up on Kirk (Chris Pine) reflecting on himself as a character and why he so woefully joined the Starfleet academy. The trailer seques into a few battle sequences before we get our first glimpse at Chris Hemsworth’s character.

We’re treated to new scenes from the movie including scenes of Anton Yelchin’s character Pavel Chekov who recently died in a horrific accident at home last week, there is no doubt that the film will be dedicated to the beloved actor.

My only quandry so far with the clips we have seen is how does Captain Kirk’s motorcycle survive the destruction of the Enterprise in space, we only see key members of the crew ejecting from the dying ship to land on the unknown planet’s surface. It seems odd to me that in all that chaos, Kirk would either choose to save his bike, or that it didn’t burn up with the rest of the Enterprise.

Lastly the theme song of the movie has been revealed as Rihanna’s Sledgehammer, which not only sets the tone of the entire film but works exceptionally well with this latest trailer as you’ll no doubt hear below.

The premise for Star Trek: Beyond is:

After stopping off at Starbase Earhart, a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, is destroyed by a powerful, unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. With the crew stranded on a unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy who has a well-earned hatred of the Federation and what it stands for.

Star Trek: Beyond is being directed by Justin Lin is due for release July 22nd 2016.
