Our pick of the three best Marvel and DC superhero films coming to the silver screen soon

In the past year and a half, Hollywood has experienced what seems to be the roaring era or the golden age of superhero movies. From X-Men to Batman, it appears as if a new superhero flick is due to be released every other month.

In 2016, we were first brought ‘Deadpool’, from Fox studios ( the “helmers” behind the X-Men movies ), while a month later being hit with the debut of Batman V. Superman.

It was only a couple of months after that , that fans got to see the highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War , followed by the X-Men: Apocalypse movie just a couple of weeks later.

With all of these new superhero movies coming out from Sony, Marvel, Warner Brothers and Fox Studios, how are you meant to know which superhero movies should be your first priority to see?

Well, we have a guide below of the three best superhero movies coming soon:

Suicide Squad
The super-villians of the Suicide Squad.

The supervillians of the Suicide Squad.

Starting with perhaps the most anticipated film for DC fans right now, Suicide Squad is set to debut in less than one month. While Batman V. Superman disappointed many, ‘Suicide Squad’ is set to change the pace of the DC comic movies, as it features a cast and iconic comic character crew like no other we have ever seen on the silver screen before.

The “skwad” is set to feature a team up of everyones favorite super-villains, which is probably unlike anything we have ever seen in a movie before. Not only are the characters themselves amazing, but the acting crew is even better, as Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Common, and many more take on the roles of their life.

Jared Leto ( who is playing the Joker ) stated himself that this movie gave him the role of a lifetime as he stated how much fun he had on set via Deadline,

“You can anticipate a lot of chaos and a hell of a lot of fun. And, I think, something completely different than other movies in the genre. … It was a role of a lifetime.”

While seeing the Joker on screen for the first time since Heath Ledger will be special, we will also be seeing the work of highly praised director David Ayer. David Ayer who is known for his work in movies like Fury, End of Watch , Training Day and The Fast & The Furious, really took the cast to an entirely new level while filming, as it was even stated he had an on set therapist just in case things got too rough for any of the “skwad”.

Between the action packed, fun trailers, the talent of the cast, and the top notch work of David Ayer, Suicide Squad is sure to be a film you won’t want to miss. It is released August 5th.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

For perhaps the most surprising reasons on the list, Spider-Man: Homecoming is part of our top 3 due to it’s amazing casting of this new Spider-Man film. While the cast will not only debut the youngest Peter Parker and Aunt “hottie” May we have ever seen on screen, the recent casting reports have turned heads as new, diverse ( ethnically and talent wise) actors have been announced for the movie almost every week.

Multi talented actors such as Zendaya, Donald Glover, and Hannibal Buress have joined the Spider-Man: Homecoming team, as this not only evolves from the typical casting we have seen in previous Spider-Man movies, it also brings actors with several other talents to the table.

Zendaya is not just an actress being added to the movie, she is also a very successful singer and dancer which came before her main stream film success. Hannibal Buress made his rise to fame as an iconic comedian, and is now debuting in multiple mainstream film productions. Where as Donald Glover ( widely known as “Childish Gambino” ) is a highly praised rapper and a fan favorite choice to play Miles Morales as he did the voice for Morales on the ‘Ultimate: Spider-Man’, animated series.

While it is unlikely Gambino plays Miles Morales in the movie, it is likely that each of these unique actors will play quite significant parts in the movie. ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ (which takes place in Queens) seems to be getting it right, as far as the diversity of the casting and talent goes.

A large part of this awesome casting, is due to the trade of Sony’s rights of Spider-Man, back to Marvel Studios. So far this change alone has given the new Spider-Man actor, Tom Holland tons of praise when he debuted in Captain America: Civil War.

Aside from Marvel surprising us with these excellent castings and the beginnings of a new era of Spider-Man movies, you’ll also want to make sure you catch this movie because it includes the talent of Robert Downey Jr. and his character Iron Man. When was the last time an Avenger was in a Spider-Man movie?

Iron Man is to team up with Spider-Man once again in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film.

That’s right, Iron Man will be with Spider-Man to some extent in the new movie, and hopefully even more than he was in the recent Captain America: Civil War film.

Michael Keaton has also been cast in the upcoming web-slinger flick. Many fans are hoping he is cast to portray the sinister villain of Vulture ( who is also rumored to be the main villain of the film). Michael Keaton as many know, is no rookie to the superhero genre as many still refer to him as the original Batman. Keaton has also played a superhero in Birdman, which would not be too far of a mix from the super-villain and powers of the Vulture.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is due to be released July 7th, 2017.

Justice League

While the logo may be subdued, the recent reports of the many Justice League set visits, are far from mundane. Justice League is set for a 2017, November release date, and has already had quite the onslaught of new information.

To start, this movie is now just called ‘Justice League’ as opposed to having a part one and two attached ( which I believe is a great idea because part one and two’s don’t work well ). The main villain ( as previewed in the extra Batman V. Superman footage ) is going to be “Steppenwolf” as Devin Faraci predicted at some point in May. And the Flash, ( played by Ezra Miller) is stated to provide much of the needed comic relief .

Batman is also stated to be a changed man, following the events of Batman vs Superman. This is good news because while many complained that Batman was way too dark in his BVS debut, this plot change would actually make sense and justify his “super-dark knight” debut.

This reformed Bruce Wayne is now set to form the Justice League and is also said to build multiple new Wayne tech vehicles and specifically have one that carries the Justice League ( kind of like a Justice League jet, called the Flying Fox ). In other good news, some dialogue between Bruce Wayne and The Flash was  released, which will help disclose the change of tone Zack Snyder said this movie will have.

Check out a snippet of the dialogue via JoBlo below:

BARRY ALLEN: “You must be looking for a person who looks exactly like me but is definitely not me. Somebody…I don’t know…hippie…long hair. A very attractive Jewish boy.”
Bruce shows him the camera footage which has Barry grabbing milk in the store.
BARRY ALLEN: “Well he drinks milk and I don’t drink milk.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “I know you have abilities; I just don’t know what they are.”
BARRY ALLEN: “My special skills include viola, web design, fluent in sign-language, gorilla sign-language…”
BRUCE WAYNE: “Silicon-based sand coarse fabric. Abrasion-resistant. Heat-resistant.
BARRY ALLEN: “Uh yeah I do competitive ice dancing.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “This is used on the space shuttle to prevent it from burning up upon re-entry.”
BARRY ALLEN: “I ummm do…very competitive ice dancing. Look man I don’t know who you are but whoever you’re looking for, it’s not me.”
Bruce then quickly throws a Batarang at Barry as the environment goes into slo-motion except for him who easily catches the Batarang and makes the revelation that Bruce is Batman.
BARRY ALLEN: “You’re the Batman?”
BRUCE WAYNE: “So you’re fast.”
BARRY ALLEN: “That feels like an over-simplification.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “I’m putting together a team of people with special abilities. You see I think enemies are coming…”
BARRY ALLEN: “STOP! Right there. I’m in.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “You are. Just like that?”
BARRY ALLEN: “Yeah. Umm…I need friends.”
BRUCE WAYNE: “Great.”
BARRY ALLEN: *looking at the Batarang* “Can I keep this?”

As stated previously, Zack Snyder said that this movie would be more light-hearted with Ezra Miller’s Flash giving a lot of the comic relief . I believe this dialogue alone shows just that and may even turn Batman V. Superman haters into believers again for the new installment. So do these changes thus far make you look forward to the new Justice League movie? Maybe not, but we believe they warrant Justice League being one of the best three superhero movies coming soon, because who doesn’t want to see the full DC superhero crew in action ?

Between the Justice League, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and the soon to be released Suicide Squad, we believe these three will be the best in the superhero genre. I would also like to add ‘Doctor Strange’ as an honorable mention, due to it’s potential to add something original and magnificent to the superhero genre. So which of these superhero movies are you looking forward to seeing the most ?
