Netflix have renewed The OA for Season 2

Today Netflix announced that The OA has been renewed for a second season, which is superb news for all fans of Brit Marling and of the sleeper hit show that snuck under the radar and into the hearts of Science Fiction fans everywhere. Netflix has granted renewals to many of its original scripted series, but the news still comes as a nice surprise and brings a sigh of relief for fans, who now know that they are guaranteed an expansion to this story.

The OA is a show that reunited Science Fiction Queen Brit Marling with director Zal Batmanglij, after their work together on Sound of my Voice. Batmanglij directed all eight of the episodes in Season 1. If he returns to helm Season 2 also (which seems highly probable and which I would love to see happen) then this will see Marling and Batmanglij reunited once again.

While similar to Stranger Things in many ways (both were also made around the same time), The OA is far more ambiguous and subtle in its use of supernatural content. This aggravated some fans, who felt that the show should have embraced its mythology a little more. This could be one potential change for Season 2 – acquiring a definitive answer to that ambiguous conundrum at the end of Season 1 and delving deeper into the mythos of the afterlife.

There is no set date for the release of Season 2 at this time, but The Nerd Recites will keep you posted as development of the second season gets underway.
