Latest trailer for Ridley Scott’s ‘Morgan’ reveals the horrific unkown of bio-engineering humans
20th Century Fox has finally released a trailer for their upcoming horror / science-fiction film Morgan, produced by Ridley Scott, that actually introduces us to some of the plot elements of the film. Previous trailers have been nothing more than short teasers that never really gave up enough of the story to get a gist of the film’s direction. All of that has changed with this latest trailer, we’re now treated to a proper look at what will be happening in Morgan and we’re pretty excited for it.
Official synopsis for Morgan
A corporate troubleshooter (Kate Mara) is sent to a remote, top-secret location, where she is to investigate and evaluate a terrifying accident. She learns the event was triggered by a seemingly innocent “human,” who presents a mystery of both infinite promise and incalculable danger.
You can’t help but draw parallels between Morgan and 1995’s horror / science-fiction film, Species
. For those who haven’t seen Species, here’s a brief rundown with spoilers for Species. In Species a group of scientists receive encoded messages from a distant planet via the SETI institute which turn out to be a set of instructions on how to modify human DNA. As movie scientists do they blindly follow the instructions and modify the DNA of a human embryo and gestate it to full term. Much like the gentically modified girl in the Morgan trailer, the genetically modified girl from Species also grows at a rapid rate and eventually learns to despise her handlers, escape the facility she is being held in and ultimately cause absoloute havoc.
For now that’s were the similarities end given we haven’t seen the film, at least with Morgan the premise is more believable. I could easily accept a for profit company getting out of hand with genetic modification in hopes of a massive payout, than I can beleive a group of scientists blindly following a set of instructions sent from an unknown civilization on how to modify our own DNA.
Personally I’m very excited to see another movie of this genre coming to our screens and while it will probably never hold the fondness I have for Species it is looking to be a wonderful modern take on the genetic experiments gone wrong theme.
As and when we hear any more news on Morgan we’ll be sure to report it here. Morgan currently has a release date of September 2nd is the US, with no confirmed date for the UK yet.
