The past week saw very little in film related news, and we already shared Priyanka Chopra’s interest in playing Joss Whedon’s Batgirl.

We do however have the following updates:

Spider-Man: Homecoming tv spot featuring Stan Lee, New Mutants casting news, Wonder Woman sequel likely to be greenlit, and Godzilla VS Kong lands a director.

Spider-Man: Homecoming NBA finals tv spot features Stan Lee cameo

A new tv spot for Spider-Man: Homecoming sees Peter Parker arrives at the party, but unfortunately Happy needs him to run an errand for a special guest…and an appearance from creator Stan Lee. The film stars actor Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, who previously appeared in the role for Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. Marisa Tomei will also reprise her role as Aunt May, and Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark/Iron Man will appear in the film as Peter’s mentor.

The film is directed by Jon Watts and in addition to Holland and Downey stars Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Laura Harrier as Liz Allan, Angourie Rice as Betty Brant, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes/The Vulture, Michael Chernus as Phineas Mason/Tinkerer, and Bokeem Woodbine as Shocker. The film will also include new characters, most notably Peter’s classmate named Michelle portrayed by Zendaya. The synopsis:

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man, who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May, under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark. Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theatres on July 7th, 2017.

New Mutants casting news

New Mutants comic art from Marvel Comics.

The highly anticipated X-Men spinoff titled New Mutants is reportedly a horror themed film set within the X-Men universe, and additional cast members have recently been confirmed. According to THR, relative newcomer Blue Hut (The Originals) has been cast in the lead role of Danielle Moonstar, a Native American telepath. In a separate article from THR, Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton is reportedly in talks to play Sam Guthrie, also known as Cannonball. Additionally, Deadline have revealed that 13 Reasons Why actor Henry Zaga has officially closed the deal play Roberto da Costa a.k.a Sunspot. The film is directed by Josh Boone, and additional cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) as Magik, and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane.

The New Mutants will open in theaters on April 13, 2018.

 

Wonder Woman sequel very likely to happen

Wonder Woman is currently in theatres and has received a favorable response from both fans and critics, and with it’s success Warner Bros. Pictures is more than likely to greenlight a sequel. According to THRdirector Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot are both contractually committed to a second film, and Jenkins is more than ready to return to direct a contemporary-set follow up.

Though nothing has officially been confirmed by the studio, it seems more likely than not.  Though where it would fit into the DCEU’s busy schedule remains to be seen.

 

Godzilla vs Kong director announced

According to Variety, director Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re NextBlair Witch) is on board to direct Godzilla vs. Kong. The film is a part of Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures shared “Monsterverse” and a followup to Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters due out next year, which stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, and Vera Farmiga. While the film will see the two monsters facing off against each other, plot details are unknown at this time. Additionally, it has yet to be confirmed whether or not any of the films casts will be reprising their roles. We’ll keep readers updated as more information becomes available.

Godzilla vs. Kong roars into theaters on May 22, 2020.

 

The Mountain Between Us official trailer

20th Century FOX have released an official trailer for their upcoming survival film The Mountain Between Us based upon the book by Charles Martin. The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Hany Abu-Assad from a screenplay by Chris Weitz and J. Mills Goodloe, and stars Academy Award winner Kate Winslet and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba, along with Beau Bridges and Dermot Mulroney.

Stranded after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow covered mountain. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing one another to endure and discovering strength they never knew possible.

The Mountain Between Us is in theatres October 20, 2017.
