Gaming options for Marvel heroes fans ahead of The Avengers Project

With the recent announcement that Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix are collaborating on a multi-year, multi-game partnership, fans are waiting in eager anticipation for the release of The Avengers project next year. In the meantime, we explore other gaming options for Marvel fans to help pass the time. There’s certainly something for everyone when it comes to gaming these days, even gaming options you might never consider are now featuring Marvel characters. There’s no shortage of options when it comes to playing Marvel themed games, so let’s look at what’s currently available and coming soon.

Lego Marvel’s Avengers is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Macintosh and Microsoft Windows. It is the successor to Lego Marvel Super Heroes and the second installment of the Lego Marvel franchise. It follows the plots of both The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron as well as Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World,and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Gameplay is similar to LEGO’s long running series of franchise video games, with a focus on puzzle solving interspersed with action.

Gamespot gave Lego Marvel’s Avengers a rating of 7 out of 10 based on: good family fun, a huge roster of Marvel characters, and a “charming spin on the Marvel movies”.

Marvel Heroes 2016 is a free-to-play action-packed massively multiplayer online gamecreated by David Brevik, the visionary behind Diablo and Diablo 2. Set in the iconic Marvel Universe, Marvel Heroes 2016 combines the core game-play style of Action RPGs and MMOs with the expansive library of heroes from the Marvel Universe. Marvel: Contest of Champions for iOS and Android. The fighting game is primarily set in the Marvel universe and is set in an arena rendered in 3D with a 2D plane for the superheroes’ movements and actions. Players begin with two champions and can collect many more, and they also have access toclassic Marvel heroes like Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, and villains like Magneto, Ultron, Loki, Rhino. Each character exhibits their own classes, movements, traits, abilities, and special moves.

Marvel: Future Fight for iOS and Android. Players will have access to someof the most beloved Marvel characters including the Avengers, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Guardians of the Galaxy, complete with their signature moves and abilities that will allow players to buildtheir own unstoppable team in the fight against well-known villains such as Loki, Doctor Octopus, and Ultron.

Marvel Avengers Academy for iOS and Android. Experience the Avengers as you’ve never seen them before! Build the ultimate Super Hero academy, and play as your favorite Avengers characters reimagined as students developing their superpowers. Customize your dream campus, unlock your favorite heroes and villains, navigate their social lives, and go on epic missions. Despite the name, it is not directly based on the Avengers Academy comic books, and instead depicts the more famous Avengers as college students.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series coming soon to consoles, PC, and mobile, delivers a brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands. The series will hit retail as a special season pass disc, which will include the first episode in the season, and will grant access to the subsequent four episodes as they become available for download via online updates. We’ll have more specifics to announce in the coming months.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is planned for release in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. It is the sixth main entry in the Marvel vs. Capcom will feature a variety of exciting and accessible single player modes and rich multi-player content for new players and longtime fans alike. In addition to single player Arcade, Training, and Mission modes, a visually stunning and immersive cinematic Story Mode will put players at the center of both universes as they battle for supremacy against powerful forces and a new villain.
